Welcome back to Little troubadours edublog!

Indeed a very wet Autumn term in London with continuous Rain.

Perfect for our All about water theme!

From the sound of the sea and ocean to thunder and rain. You can find a sample of water sounds here: Water sounds..

Last weekend I listened to an extract of a Symphony that included natural sounds on BBC3 radio. I found the website.

'In April 2012 composer Richard Blackford heard extracts from Bernie Krause’s book The Great Animal Orchestra read on BBC Radio 4 Book Of The Week. By inventing the term ‘biophony’, or the collective voices generated by all the organisms in a given natural habitat and time, Krause invites the listener to become aware of the intricate layers of sound created by the animal world within natural habitats which he likens to the layers and textures of an orchestra'.

I loved the idea and have just ordered a copy of The Great Animal Orchestra for blending natural sounds and orchestra sounds in our class.

This week I played the cello, taking these amazing natural sounds as background. The children were able to hear the rhythm of seaside waves blended with cello playing of 'Song of the Birds' composed by the Catalan cellist Pau Casals. Thomas pointed at the sound of the sea and said to his mummy: 'Music!'

Also, children enjoyed conducting Sailor's Hornpipe Henry Woods Fantasia of British Sea Songs. Taking turns for solos, playing loud/quiet and slow/fast.

Finally, we found sticks, twigs, and leaves in our local park for making sounds and rhythms with the drums.

Some Rainy days songs are available: Rainy days songs. A favourite one is Splashing in the puddles
